Hours before Survivors premieres, a closer look is being given to the reality contestants. One of the final confirmations, and surprisingly notable, is Aurah Ruiz. The former participant of Mujeres y Hombres and Viceversa returns, this time to join a Telecinco survival-focused reality show.
Now 34, Aurah previously appeared on Big Brother VIP in 2018, where she found romance with television collaborator Suso Álvarez. Although the relationship did not flourish beyond the house, the Canary Islander kept belief in love alive. After a period marked by ups and downs and various headlines, she married the father of her footballer son, Nyan. The name associated with his son is Jesse Rodríguez.
The couple began dating in 2016 amid their Real Madrid connections. He accompanied the striker to Paris when he joined Paris Saint-Germain, but the relationship cooled. A central point of friction involved his son, who has faced a rare condition since birth that causes dangerous drops in blood sugar. Aurah did not hesitate to speak publicly about her concerns that Jesé was not paying proper attention to their child, which sparked a major argument.
Ultimately, the couple reconciled, and in July 2022, they signaled a renewed commitment during a wedding livestreamed by Mtmad, which drew considerable attention due to some disclosed details that felt more intimate than private.
I cannot kill any living creature.
In her presentation video for Survivors, Aurah comes across as a fiercely competitive person. “I hate losing. I don’t handle it well,” she admits, though she adds that living with it is easy in her world.
Asked about the foods she will miss most, chocolate tops the list. Whatever the chocolate variety, that is what the Canary Islander will value most when it comes to rewards.
As a personal token, Jesé Rodríguez’s wife isn’t sure what exactly she’ll bring, but she knows it will be a plush toy belonging to her son Nyan. The choice will be left to the little boy to decide which one it will be.
What remains unknown about this new survivor is her most secret fear: cockroaches. It remains to be seen how this will clash with a potential conflict in Survivors, where there is a recurring rule: “I cannot kill any living creature.” It is unclear whether she will ever make an exception for cockroaches, but she does acknowledge: “I can catch a fish, but I’ll regret putting a hook in its mouth and I can’t kill it.”
One thing she could not tolerate in the competition was eating in front of others while starving herself; those who have watched other versions of the show know this is a common issue when teams fail to win the challenge.
Regarding her preparation, Aurah reveals that she has gone to the gym and also seen a psychologist to boost mental readiness. What she did not do before heading to Honduras was starve herself to train her stomach for the experience: “That sounds ridiculous to me.”
“I want to win Survivors to show my father that I am not weak and I will not give up at the first try,” she concludes.
