A recent survey highlights a largely favorable view of Russian President Vladimir Putin among respondents. A substantial portion of those polled expressed positive assessments of his leadership, according to data gathered by the Public Opinion Foundation (FOM).

The findings come from the weekly FOMnibus survey, conducted on January 21, 2024, with a sample of about 1,500 adults aged 18 and over. Participants were interviewed in their homes across 104 communities spanning 53 federal subjects of Russia, providing a broad cross-section of the national landscape. The methodology included a statistical margin of error not exceeding 3.6 percent, as noted by the researchers.

In terms of trust, the results showed that roughly three-quarters of respondents, about 77 percent, expressed trust in the president. Yet a minority—around 12 percent—indicated only a limited level of trust, signaling a notable degree of skepticism among a segment of the population. Additionally, about 9 percent of participants assessed Putin’s performance as quite poor, reflecting a nuanced mix of opinion that coexists with the overall positive sentiment.

In statements aligned with the broader political discourse, Putin has previously reiterated that the Russian people remain the principal source of power within the country. He emphasized the need to advance democratic institutions, strengthen mechanisms of democracy, and support local self-government. The focus is on increasing direct citizen participation in the development of the nation, its regions, and its municipalities.

Looking back at past reflections, Putin has also explored the possibility of self-reflection on leadership years, underscoring the value of continual assessment and adaptation in governance. Such remarks illustrate an ongoing dialogue about accountability, public trust, and the evolving role of leadership within Russia’s political system.
