Weeks after threats were reported, the mayor of Aspe, Antonio Puerto, has seen his father’s van set on fire. The incident occurred at around 3:30 a.m. on a Friday, with authorities noting that the father of Puerto faced the blaze in circumstances under investigation. Sources close to the inquiry confirmed the vehicle was engulfed in flames.
The fire also affected several nearby vehicles and the facades of neighboring homes. The van was left completely burned out.
The incident follows a report filed with the Civil Guard after last Tuesday, July 2, during a meeting at the City Hall with the owner of a gambling venue named El Chato, who requested the reopening of the premises closed by the municipality. The discussion escalated into threats when Puerto asked him to leave the municipal offices.
The complaint specifically describes Ángel A.P., widely known as “El Chato,” making a neck-cutting gesture while threatening to reveal the places where the mayor and his family frequent, speaking in a menacing tone. He even approached the mayor and said, “I will tear your head off” and “I will kill you.”
As a result of the report, a magistrate in Novelda issued a restraining order prohibiting the investigated individual from going to the mayor’s home or any location where the mayor is present, from approaching within 300 meters, and from communicating with him by any means for the duration of the investigation and until a final ruling or closure of the case.

It remains unclear whether there is a link between the arson and the threats, a detail the Civil Guard will determine as part of its ongoing inquiry.
