Three Alleged Attackers Arrested After Hate-Mueled Assault in Pozaldez
This incident involved three youths from Medina del Campo who were taken into custody by the Civil Guard of Valladolid. They are suspected of carrying out an injury with aggravating discrimination during festivities in the town of Pozaldez, where a teenager was assaulted because of his sexual orientation.
The events unfolded in the early hours of Sunday. Officials from the armed institution disclosed on Thursday that the Civil Guard learned of a disturbance at a social gathering scene in which a young man was targeted and struck for his sexual status.
The Civil Guard promptly responded to the location. The victim reported that the motive behind the attack was unclear to him; he had been dancing with friends when a heavy blow to the face knocked him to the ground. The assailants then continued with punches and kicks, escalating the violence as alarms and concerned bystanders watched.
Official Report to the Civil Guard
Working in cooperation with officers tasked with Preventive Citizen Safety and the newly formed REDO Team—an initiative dedicated to addressing hate crimes—the authorities opened a formal inquiry following the submission of the complaint. The aim was to verify the facts, clarify the sequence of events, and identify all involved parties.
After extensive interviews with witnesses and residents of the town, and the collection of relevant evidence, authorities arrested three individuals who are suspected of aggravated injuries connected to discrimination based on the victim’s sexual orientation. In addition, investigators identified and questioned five other people who were believed to be connected with the same group.
The Medina del Campo Civil Guard Post coordinated the operation under formal procedures and the detainees were placed at the Valladolid Sentry Court for further proceedings and oversight.
The investigation continues with a focus on ensuring clarity of the circumstances surrounding the incident, the precise role of each suspect, and the protection of civil rights for all residents during celebratory events. Law enforcement emphasizes that hate-motivated violence has no place in the community, and actions taken by authorities reflect a commitment to swift, lawful response when such acts occur.
