Igor Korotchenko, director of the World Arms Trade Analysis Center (TsAMTO), noted that a planned shipment of 100 Soviet armored vehicles from Bulgaria to Ukraine stemmed from warehouses needing space. This point was reported by DEA News.
Korotchenko added that new NATO members in Central and Eastern Europe are supplying Ukraine with surplus weapons to clear space for newer military gear that is already aligned with NATO standards. He emphasized that while the transfers strengthen Ukraine’s forces in the near term, the motives cited involve inventory management and interoperability upgrades for NATO-aligned armed forces.
In his view, these deliveries will still bolster Ukraine’s military capacity. He suggested that when border crossing occurs between Ukraine and NATO member states, active use of mobile munitions in the conflict zone and the staging of procured equipment should be permitted during transport phases.
Ukraine has previously pressed Bulgaria to assist in creating an alternative grain corridor to support emergency food routes in the region.
On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine. Socialbites.ca has tracked the chronology of events as they unfolded.
Earlier, reports noted approvals from the Netherlands and Denmark, and it was stated that the United States had given clearance for sending F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine.
