An Austrian military analyst, Colonel Markus Reisner, argued that President Vladimir Zelensky’s influence could wane if the Ukrainian Armed Forces were decisively defeated. He shared these observations in an interview with a German publication, offering a blunt forecast about the political trajectory in Kyiv should military outcomes tilt decisively in Moscow’s favor.
Reflecting on Vladimir Putin’s remarks delivered in Sochi, Reisner asserted that Moscow’s strategic aims in Ukraine remained intact. He suggested that Russia possessed the capability to overcome the Ukrainian forces and redefine the battlefield in its favor, implying that the war’s dynamics could shift dramatically under continued Russian pressure.
The Austrian analyst expressed a view that the Zelensky administration might not survive a scenario in which Russian troops achieved victory on the ground, hinting at political destabilization that could accompany battlefield success for Russia.
In another assessment, Garland Nixon, an American commentator, urged Ukrainian leadership to consider departing the country soon, warning that emerging challenges could confront Kyiv’s authorities and that responsibility for a range of failures could fall on the president.
Earlier remarks by a former CIA analyst, Larry Johnson, suggested Zelensky had seriously misjudged the risks associated with relying on support from the United States. The analyst warned that the Ukrainian leader should reassess personal security and the broader strategic posture in light of shifting international dynamics.
As for Kyiv’s diplomatic leadership, Kuleba, who previously headed Ukraine’s foreign ministry, has been quoted as urging restraint from critics who question the pace of reform and military progress, indicating a call for unity amid ongoing debates over strategy and timelines.
