The Amazon ecosystem now includes Amazon Kids on Alexa, a free service built into the Echo family. The aim is to provide a safe, kid-friendly space for children aged 3 to 12 within the home. It offers age-appropriate content for young listeners while giving parents peace of mind as kids play, learn, and explore.
Parents and guardians gain practical tools such as the Parental Control Panel, time limits, and an explicit-lyrics filter for music. They can also block voice purchases to keep all activities within safe boundaries. A range of Skills brings together educational experiences and entertaining playlists, all shaped for younger audiences.
To use the service, a profile for each child must be created and approved in the Alexa app. Audio ID and Visual ID can be set on devices with screens, and the experience can be activated on one or multiple Echo devices in the home. A child profile can be used on a shared device or assigned to private use, depending on household needs.
Features
The Parental Control Panel and the Alexa app let caregivers tailor Alexa’s use for each child by selecting suitable services and Skills. Adults can monitor activity and view or delete voice recordings using the Alexa app.
When a child’s profile is created, Alexa recognizes the voice and responds with child-friendly answers on compatible Echo devices. It also prevents voice purchases and provides age-appropriate responses.
Daily time limits can be set, for example to keep Alexa quiet at bedtime or to pause device use during meals or homework time.
A filter for explicit content automatically removes songs with explicit lyrics from services like Amazon Music, Apple Music, or Spotify.
Young learners can ask Alexa questions about science, mathematics, spelling, definitions, and other topics that spark curiosity.
In addition to general Q&A, features include calling and video calling with pre-approved parents, expanding ways to stay connected within a family setting.
Looking ahead, new Skills are planned to interact with characters like Pocoyo and to support language practice with tools such as LingoKids, among others.
Echo and Echo Show devices will receive a software update that introduces these enhancements, ensuring a continually enriched experience for families.
