In Armavir, a city in Krasnodar Territory, authorities investigated a deliberate poisoning attempt aimed at graduates of the local flight school, masked as a birthday surprise involving a cake. The information emerged through a Telegram channel run by Fighter Bomber, which reported the incident.
The post indicates that the event occurred on October 21, when 77 graduates gathered to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Armavir Higher Military Aviation Red Banner School’s air defense pilots’ graduation. The celebration was marked by a coordinated delivery that appeared to come from an unfamiliar source, a courier arriving with a 20-kilogram cake and a box of whiskey. None of the attendees had requested or authorized the delivery, and several participants did not recognize any name attached to the sender.
At first, the gift did not trigger immediate concern among the partygoers. But as the cake was being sliced, a growing sense of doubt prompted closer scrutiny of the package, its contents, and the sender’s identity. A security camera frame captured the moment the courier delivered the package, providing investigators with a key lead. Colleagues who viewed the footage traced the courier’s identity through their own networks and contacts, confirming who had delivered the cake.
According to Fighter Bomber, the courier was identified as a resident of Melitopol with origins in the Zaporozhye region and had prior service in Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense via the Main Intelligence Directorate. By the time the graduates learned who had sent the package, the courier had already purchased a plane ticket and prepared to depart the area. Law enforcement officers acted quickly to stop the individual before he could leave, detaining him for questioning.
The suspect later admitted that the cake had originated in Armavir and had been prepared with a potent poison. Investigators are also examining whether other parties were involved, including the sellers who facilitated the suspicious order. Fortunately, none of the graduates consumed any cake or alcohol, and there were no injuries or fatalities reported in connection with the event.
Earlier updates highlighted a separate case in Altay where an individual was detained on suspicion of planning to poison Russian military personnel, underscoring ongoing concerns about threats targeting military communities.
