She was thirty-one, pregnant with her first child, initials ACM. The couple lived in Manresa, near Barcelona, while the baby’s father was born in Prats de Lluçanès. It was reported that he ended his life in the home shared with his partner on May 6.

The Government Delegation Against Gender-Based Violence confirmed the violent, male-dominated pattern behind the crime. In the year 2023, it marked the seventeenth case, contributing to a national total of 1,201 since statistics began in 2003.

There had been no prior complaints of mistreatment against the alleged attacker, who was identified as a current or former partner. In this year thus far, only three cases of confirmed domestic abuse have been recorded, representing seventeen percent of the incidents examined.

The alleged attacker was detained

The incident was reported as the second case of lethal violence against women in Catalonia in 2023, and it stood as the 189th such case in the region since 2003.

On May 6, the ACM couple reportedly took their own lives. Initial assessments by the Mossos d’Esquadra showed no obvious signs of foul play. However, further investigative work and autopsy results later confirmed that the death was violent in nature.

The attacker was arrested on Monday, May 15, nine days after the events, by Mossos personnel, who identified him as the alleged assailant.

Officials emphasized the severity of gender-based violence. Equality Minister Irene Montero spoke of the deep pain caused by murder and stressed that institutions must continuously develop tools and resources to respond in time. Meritxell Batet, Speaker of the House of Representatives, noted that society cannot endure the horrors of sexist violence and called for decisive action to protect victims.
