An official decision has cleared the way for urgent repair work on the roof of the Alicantina Fair Authority, following damage sustained during heavy rainfall last autumn. Aitana Mas, the vice-president and spokesperson for the Valencian Administration, outlined the plan, which transfers the project to the construction firm Tragsa as part of two emergency contracts. These agreements will cover repairs to both pavilions at the fairgrounds and were announced by the Generalitat with a total budget of 290,000 euros.
The first contract covers technical documentation and construction management, while the second funds roof and facility repairs for IFA Halls I and II. The assigned budgets are 36,717.45 euros for the documentation and management component and 253,674.71 euros for the repair work. The Generalitat justified the urgency by presenting it as the quickest and most effective way to restore full functionality to the fair space, ensuring ongoing activities are not disrupted. Work is slated to proceed following the completion of the fair institution’s recovery program, which is funded through a 76 million euro initiative tied to expanding land that will host a new hub for innovative companies. This strategic move aims to accelerate the fair’s recovery and support broader economic development in the region. [Citation: Generalitat Valenciana]
Amid these changes, the governance of the IFA is undergoing a transition. The transformation of the IFA into a public company coincides with a consolidation of accounts, and Beatriz Serrano has been appointed as the new managing director. The organization faces a range of challenges, including planning future events designed to boost business activity and increase profitability for the fair complex. [Citation: Generalitat Valenciana]
