Alicante’s mayor, Luis Barcala, signed a cooperation agreement this Friday with the new president of the Management and Modernization Unit (EGM) for the Aguamarga polygon. The move aims to mobilize the necessary investments to improve the area and boost donations. This industrial zone sits along a key axis linking the regional capital to the city of Elche.

Among the initiatives is the launch of an organization already present in other provincial industrial areas, such as San Isidro and Alcoy’s developments. The city will seek council financing to Ivace to fund enhancements that raise energy efficiency and lighting across the entire site. The project is valued at 457,896 euros, according to the mayor.

Generalitat will provide more aid to industrial zones that create management and modernization units

In this framework, the EGM notes that the agreement will explore the creation of an energy community among regional companies to promote renewable energy use. It also seeks to advance provisions for basic services in areas like fire safety facilities, telecommunications networks, and security systems.

Luis Barcala was photographed with Clemente González Soler, president of the Alibérico group, during a visit to the group’s Alicante facility. The image serves as a reminder of the collaboration between municipal leadership and regional industry to strengthen the local economy.

Among the plan’s objectives are improving access and creating green spaces, expanding public transport options, advancing regional digitalization, and collecting operational data to optimize services and workflows.

Visit Redbond

Following the signing, a visit was conducted to the headquarters of Fempa, a central site within the industrial complex. Redbond Composites hosted Barcala, who was welcomed by Clemente González Soler and the company manager, Maria González Armero.

Redbond Composites specializes in the production of large-format aluminum and composite sheets, primarily used for signage and decorative applications. The firm exports about 85 percent of its output, with markets across Europe, North America, and North Africa.

The corporate group that owns Redbond is part of Alibérico, the foremost private Spanish and European family-owned manufacturer of semi-finished aluminum products. The conglomerate comprises 35 companies with 21 factories—17 in nine autonomous communities in Spain and four abroad across three continents—supported by a network that reaches more than 90 countries worldwide.

Lack of land in Alicante slows down industrial and logistics investments

The Alibérico family group anchors the local industrial economy in Alicante, though land constraints have been a challenge for expanding industrial and logistics projects. This tension underscores a broader regional effort to unlock space for new facilities, streamline permitting, and attract broader investment to sustain growth across the province and neighboring communities.
