Step one was delivered on time and in line with expectations. ADIF published yesterday the initial assessment of the remodeling and electrification works at Alicante’s train station. As reported last August, the 28 companies organized into 15 consortia passed the first hurdle set by the rail authority under the Ministry of Transport and Mobility.

The technical valuation places the Rover and Elecnor UTE as the best value bid. In this procurement phase, the evaluation considered the technical memory and work program, the quality standards, the environmental plan, health and safety, and other aspects not easily captured by formulas.

The Valencian company thus takes the lead over 14 rivals and could become the province’s largest public works player in the next two years, given that it has already secured the contract to connect the TRAM from Plaza Luceros with the central railway infrastructure. The project involves an investment exceeding 100 million euros, with the potential addition of 21 million from ADIF. The two schemes will run concurrently, as the department led by Óscar Puente anticipates a 21-month timeline that includes six new high-speed tracks, canopies on platforms, and soundproofing panels among other features.

This is the same Valencian company that manages the TRAM connection to the railway, signaling a strategic edge in the region’s ongoing rail modernization efforts.

Bidders

With a score of 47.18 points, this UTE leads by a single point over its nearest rival, FCC Construcciones. The Alicante firm Ortiz Construcciones y Proyectos competes with Cosfesa and Vilor. Another Valencian player, Bertolín, appears with Acsa and Infraestructuras Trade. The list also includes Azvi-Ispalvia, Ferrovial, Obrascon Huarte Lain-Agrupación Guinovart-Servicios Hipania- Guinovart, Comsa, Acciona; Vías y Construcciones and CHM, Sacyr, Copasa, Imathia Construcción- Construcciones Alpisa, Asch Infraestructuras and Aldesa-Coalvi on the public procurement portal.

The bidding landscape shows a mix of large national groups and regional firms, all hoping to secure a project that could reshape Alicante’s transport links for years to come. The competition reflects a broader push across Spain to modernize rail corridors, boost safety standards, and reduce environmental impact while expanding capacity along key corridors.

Euromed: two new frequencies

Starting November 5, two new Euromed weekend connections will be added. One will originate in Valencia on Saturdays, and the other will depart from Alicante on Sundays. On Saturdays, the Barcelona-originating service currently leaving at 8:15 will extend its route to Alicante, while on Sundays the service will begin in Alicante at 12:35.

These additions come as part of a broader schedule optimization aimed at increasing regional accessibility for travelers and supporting smoother connections with high-speed lines. The weekend expansion is paired with ongoing infrastructure work that will gradually improve hours, reliability, and travel times for residents and visitors alike.
