Alicante authorities stopped a 19-year-old defendant who attempted to rob a local officer using a knife. The arrest followed close cooperation between police forces in the area.
The attempted robbery was reported on 14 May by a local police officer who had just finished a night shift at Alicante Town Hall. According to the officer’s statement, he was walking toward the Northern District around six in the morning when a man suddenly approached from behind. The assailant grabbed the officer by the neck with one arm in a chokehold and pressed a sharp object to the officer with the other hand, attempting to take personal belongings from the victim.
The officer managed to extricate himself and move a short distance away, pursuing the attacker briefly before the suspect fled.

The officer attempted to pursue the suspect but realized he had sustained a blunt and incisive wound to the neck. The injury did not sever major vessels, but bleeding could not be stopped quickly, so the officer chose to contact emergency services rather than risk his life. Both the National Police and Local Police emergency numbers were notified. The officer reportedly searched the area but could not immediately locate the assailant.
The injured officer was transported to Alicante General Hospital for treatment. The neck wound was assessed as non-life-threatening, with medical staff describing it as serious but not affecting vital organs.
The Northern District Police Station Judicial Police Group launched the investigation and obtained footage of the attacker from security cameras near the scene. The initial image did not yield a positive identification, so the photograph was shared with different units of both the National Police and the Alicante Local Police to widen the search.
A 19-year-old Colombian national was later identified through information provided by local officers who had encountered a person matching the suspect’s physical appearance and clothing during another incident on June 17. The officers described the individual to the National Police Forensic Group, which took charge of the case.
Following surveillance and ongoing investigations, authorities confirmed that the same person was the alleged assailant and proceeded with his arrest. The individual was brought before a court, which ordered detention as the legal process continued.
