A 44-year-old woman sought medical care after inhaling smoke when a fire destroyed a house in Alicante, with two dogs perishing as a result, according to information provided by emergency authorities.
The incident unfolded around half past noon on Monday at 67 Avenida de Orihuela, where the blaze originated on the building’s first floor. A coordinated response involved four teams from the Alicante Prevention Service, Fire Fighting and Rescue unit, along with a total of 16 firefighters and several Local Police patrols who arrived to secure the area and manage the scene.
Firefighters arrived promptly and began assessing the situation, establishing a perimeter and initiating ventilation to clear smoke and toxic gases from the affected interior. Fire suppression crews worked to control the flames, protect adjacent units, and prevent the spread of heat to other parts of the building. The extinguishing operation required careful coordination, as crews dealt with a strong thermal load and the structural elements involved. After the fire was brought under control, responders conducted a thorough ventilation and overhauling process to ensure no hotspots remained, a task municipal services estimated to take about two hours.
Local Police traffic control was implemented on Avenida de Orihuela, with one direction temporarily closed to facilitate the work of the emergency teams and to maintain the safety of bystanders and residents nearby.
The CICU, the Central Unit for Information and Coordination of Emergencies, was placed on fire alert and mobilized along with medical services. A Basic Life Support ambulance treated the 44-year-old woman for smoke inhalation before she was transported to Doctor Balmis General Hospital in Alicante for further evaluation and care.
In the wake of the incident, authorities confirmed that the two dogs died and the house sustained significant damage from the fire.
