A Alicante Civil Guard operation led to four arrests over two consecutive days during a community safety patrol on access routes to the city. In the first incidents, two suspects attempted to flee after being spotted by officers conducting routine checks. The stopped individuals were found driving a vehicle that had no license and was reported stolen. A separate incident on the following day involved two different individuals identified while traveling in a car carrying nearly half a kilogram of marijuana.
On Monday around noon, during a public safety patrol, officers at the Sax Civil Guard Post observed a passenger car traveling in the opposite direction to the official vehicle on the same road. The driver abruptly turned around and sped away. The patrol gave chase as the fleeing car was pursued. One of the occupants repeatedly endangered other road users by performing prohibited maneuvers and occupying the opposite lane. Moments after starting the pursuit, the vehicle veered off the road, hitting a tree. Officials swiftly reached the scene and prevented the two occupants from escaping on foot. The driver was confirmed to be driving without a license and to have been in a stolen vehicle. A search of the interior uncovered a stolen cell phone.
A vehicle reported stolen in Elda on August 17 had connected to the case, and the stolen cell phone was subsequently recovered the same day in Sax, August 22. Both items were returned to their rightful owners. The two intruders were taken into custody on charges of vehicle theft and cell phone theft, as well as serious contempt toward law enforcement officers. The driver faced additional allegations of reckless driving and driving without authorization. The two arrestees were identified as two Spanish nationals aged 17 and 22, respectively, who were brought before the court as part of Villena Instruction No. 3, which governs pretrial release considerations.
In a separate development the following day, Tuesday afternoon, August 23, a second unit patrol, focusing on a nearby area associated with the previous day’s events, stopped a vehicle on the El Plano rural road between Sax and Colonia de Santa Eulalia. The car was occupied by two individuals and the officers noted signs of nervousness in both occupants. A search of the vehicle revealed two bags containing marijuana buds weighing 250 and 260 grams, respectively, in a pre-dried state ready for sale. An amount of 750 euros in cash was found in the car as well.
The two men were arrested on charges of drug trafficking. One suspect is a 30-year-old Spanish national, and the other is a 29-year-old Colombian national. They were presented to the Investigation Court No. 3 of Villena, which ordered their remand in custody as they await further proceedings. The events underscore ongoing enforcement efforts to curb drug activity and vehicle-related crimes in the region.
