National Police officers detained four men, including a minor, in Alicante after they attempted to break into a home from the inside with the apparent intent to commit burglary.
The incident occurred in the early hours of January 30 in a neighborhood near Alicante’s historic old town. A local resident observed unusual activity, noticed a toolbox-like approach to manipulating the lock and the ground-floor window grill, and decided to alert law enforcement after seeing the group hurry away.
Several patrols from the Citizen Assistance Group and units from the Alicante Central Regional Police Station, including the Operational Response Group, were dispatched to the scene. They established a perimeter around the home and worked to map the surroundings as described by the witness, aiming to locate the alleged intruders based on their appearance and behavior.
One of the patrols succeeded in locating the four suspected perpetrators nearby, assisted by nearby response units that helped secure the area. Officers initiated an initial fact-finding process to clarify the events and identify the individuals involved.
Investigators from the Intervention Operation Group of the Central District Police Station examined the residence and found clear signs of forced entry. The door and its locking mechanism showed damage, and marks on a window bar and shutter corroborated the attempt. Subsequent inquiries revealed information about the homeowner and the context of the attempted burglary.
During the operation, officers recovered basic tools commonly used in such offenses. The detainees were interviewed, but they did not provide meaningful information about the incident and remained uncooperative with the National Police.
With strong indications that the detainees participated directly in the attempted burglary, the officers proceeded with their arrest. The group consisted of three adults of Spanish nationality and one Colombian, aged 17 to 56. A review of their records indicated extensive histories across different incidents.
The three adults were placed under the custody of the on-duty Court of Inquiry. The Special Crime Group within the Provincial Judicial Police Brigade of the Alicante Provincial Police Station took responsibility for the case and kept the investigation open. Investigators suggested a possible link to other offenses detected through the same investigative approach and stress that further inquiries are planned to determine any broader criminal connections.
