Alicante Arrests Linked to Large-Scale Brand Clothing Theft

A major operation in Alicante led to the arrest of a courier linked to a well-known Spanish clothing brand, who is suspected of profiting from selling large quantities of merchandise before it reached retail destinations.

Along with the courier, two other men were detained, allegedly purchasing the clothes from him at well below market value to resell them later. The police reported these details in an official communiqué.

Investigations began when officers from the National Police, assigned to the Citizen Care Group of the Alicante Provincial Police Station, stopped a van near Avenida Médico Ricardo Ferre in Alicante. The occupants behaved nervously in the police presence, prompting a closer look.

After fully identifying the people in the vehicle, investigators found that the front-seat passenger had an active arrest warrant for a gender-based violence offense. A search of the van’s rear revealed six boxes of clothing inside.

The clothing bore the label of a nationally recognized Spanish brand. It was new, never used, and valued at nearly 8,000 euros in total. When questioned about the origin of the merchandise, the suspects gave inconsistent answers and appeared visibly nervous, until one of them admitted to a longer-running activity.

The man disclosed that, for about three years, roughly twice a week, he meets with a clothing courier who sells him five or six boxes of clothes of his choosing from the truck for 80 euros per box. The trio would then sell the items on second-hand clothing apps.

In light of these statements, the National Police detained the two men as alleged perpetrators of a continued theft, in addition to the existing arrest warrant affecting one of them.

Subsequently, officers from the Judicial Police Group of the North District Police Station delivered the stolen clothing to the warehouse manager responsible for the logistics unit from which the items originated.

The police identified the man who allegedly exploited his transport role to move the clothes from the logistics facility to stores, thereby stealing designer garments from a renowned Spanish brand over several years and causing substantial economic loss. He was arrested as well.

All three detainees are Spanish nationals, aged between 27 and 42, and were presented to the Alicante Juvenile Court in a guardian function for procedures as part of the case.
