A television figure is moving into a new role when the public broadcaster announces the appointment of a familiar face to anchor the 15:00 news hour. Alexandra Herranz will take on the main presenting duties of the Telediario at 3 PM starting Monday, September 12. In addition to leading the program, she will remain part of the Editing team, a position she has held for the past four years, underscoring her ongoing involvement behind the scenes and in shaping the day’s top stories.
During her time with the newsroom, Herranz has reported on some of the year’s most significant events. She covered the pandemic’s developments, the impacts of severe weather such as storm Filomena, and major political moments including elections that drew nationwide attention. She has also reported on natural and global happenings, including the eruption of La Palma and the resulting humanitarian and logistical considerations. Her reporting has extended beyond the borders to international events, where she coordinated coverage of the Capitol attack in the United States, the collapse of Afghanistan following the Taliban takeover, and developments from NATO summits and the war in Ukraine. In addition to live coverage, she contributed to the distribution of award programs, such as the Princess of Asturias Awards, working alongside colleagues to present these moments to the audience.
Herranz holds a Diploma in Journalism from the Complutense University of Madrid. She began her career at Radiotelevisión Española, gaining early experience that would shape her approach to reporting and presentation. Over the next sixteen years she worked with RTVE in various capacities, including leadership roles on the program Los Mañanas de TVE as deputy director and as an editor and presenter at Canal 24 Horas. In those years she directed several cultural programs, demonstrating a versatility that blends hard news with cultural coverage and informed commentary.
The announcement comes as Ana Blanco is stepping away from anchoring the daily Telediario for a period of vacation-related leave, with additional updates on her professional plans still to be announced. Blanco, who has been a staple of RTVE for more than thirty years, will continue to contribute to the public broadcaster in a new capacity yet to be disclosed. The move marks a transition for the network and for its longtime audience, as a familiar voice prepares to take the lead in a key daily slot while Blanco explores new opportunities within the organization.
Within RTVE, the decision aligns with a broader effort to refresh the news desk while maintaining continuity for viewers who rely on reliable, steady presenting and in-depth reporting. Telediario has long been recognized as a flagship program with a history of guiding the public through the day’s events, from major national moments to important international developments. The channel’s coverage has often included live reports, analysis, and carefully curated segments that reflect a commitment to clarity, balance, and context. In Herranz’s hands, the program is positioned to continue meeting those standards, offering audiences a structured and accessible way to digest complex information.
