Alicante’s Family Business Association (AEFA) closes 2022 with eleven additional member companies, bringing the total to 170 affiliated firms. The president, Maite Antón, highlighted steady growth despite economic uncertainty, noting that continued support has hardened the association and positioned it to reach more regional family businesses in the years ahead. The remarks came during the traditional Christmas Gathering hosted at the Fideguet estate.

This event has grown into a cornerstone annual occasion, drawing participants from over a hundred family businesses spanning four generations within the province of Alicante. Antón underscored AEFA’s role as a pioneer in Spain, uniquely existing as the sole provincial family business association in the country. She emphasized that the initial constraints did not hinder AEFA from becoming a robust and representative body with a clear, respected voice in management. In fact, the association stands among the most influential family business groups in the nation.

New member plaques were presented to welcome recently joined firms, including Alumap, COES, Gaviota Group, Gestimed, Grupo Glem, Hersigrim, Indalva Química, Alamo 96, Multiacustica, Singular Glass, and MPC Group.

Diversity of activities in 2022

The gathering reviewed AEFA’s program of more than 50 events, such as conferences, briefings, working sessions, and training aimed at addressing the realities of managing family-owned enterprises. The president highlighted the latest AEFA Awards as one of the most meaningful and touching moments in the association’s history. Antón also noted the launch of AEFA’s first ethics code, a milestone that defines the values and principles guiding behavior within an ethical framework for the association.

The board complimented the province’s family business leaders for their dedication and resilience, acknowledging the role these firms play in shaping the local economy through daily efforts and long-term commitments. The president added that it is the work of these families that gives substance to the association’s activities.

Antón also expressed gratitude for the support received from collaborating organizations that help advance the interests of Alicante’s family businesses and promote continuity across generations. Partners include Cuatrecasas, Deloitte, KPMG, Garrigues, Improven, PwC, Banco Santander, CaixaBank, Banco Sabadell, Cajamar, Ibercaja, the Manuel Peláez Castillo Foundation, and the Juan Perán Pikolinos Foundation.

Further appreciation was given to regional institutions that accompany AEFA on its path, including the Alicante Provincial Council, the Ministry of Sustainability, the University of Alicante, and Miguel Hernández University of Elche, whose backing has helped guide the association’s efforts over the years.
