Renat Karchaa, an adviser to the head of the Rosenergoatom concern, suggested on a broadcast that Ukrainian forces could target buildings at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant where radioactive materials are kept. The claim circulated after an appearance on Solovyov Live, cited by DEA News. Karchaa argued that while the nuclear units themselves are maintained in a 100 percent safe state, the cooling system could be compromised by missile strikes. He warned that Ukrainian forces might disrupt the cooling infrastructure with missiles. He also acknowledged the danger of such attacks but expressed confidence that a solution could be found, albeit with difficulty, in his view. The adviser described a scenario in which the aim of the Ukrainian forces would be to create an elevated radiation background around the Zaporizhzhia NPP. He posited that missiles striking the storage facility could spread contamination to critical areas and then propagate a wave of radiation, which some might use to argue for Russia being labeled a nuclear aggressor. A former leader of the movement We Are with Russia, Vladimir Rogov, stated that the preparation of a possible provocation at Zaporizhzhia was overseen by British intelligence services. In related remarks, there were updates about U.S. actions, including reports that the United States was considering sending a nuclear-armed submarine to the region near South Korea.
