The Guardia Civil has pursued charges against a truck driver, aged 50, for abandoning the scene after a crash that occurred in the early hours of October 14. The incident unfolded at kilometer 62 of the A-4 road toward Madrid when the driver struck a woman and drove away, leaving her in critical condition.
According to sources close to the investigation, the victim is a 24-year-old woman who was walking along a path between 2:00 and 3:00 a.m. She was en route to Ocaña, a town in Toledo, near the location of the collision. Low visibility contributed to the pedestrian’s disorientation as she crossed onto the roadway.
Abandoned for Five Hours
The young woman was not assisted until 7:30 a.m., when a Toledo Guardia Civil patrol spotted her. She was hidden behind a roadway marker and attempted to signal for help with a raised hand. She was severely injured and unable to move due to the injuries sustained.
The officers acted promptly, activating emergency services to aid the victim. Paramedics transported her to the University Hospital of Toledo, where she began to show signs of stabilization as medical care progressed.
After the Escaped Driver
As soon as information about the incident emerged, authorities launched a search to locate the vehicle responsible and to detain its driver.
Investigators examined parts found at the crash site and determined they matched a truck of a specific make and model. In the days that followed, a device was deployed to review more than 3,000 vehicle registrations that traveled along the A-4 toward Madrid on the date of the event.
In addition, efforts were made with more than 100 trucks of that make. It was possible to identify a truck of that brand and model in Albacete undergoing repairs, bearing damage compatible with a collision of this type.
Moreover, the parts recovered at the crash site matched this vehicle. The Guardia Civil continues to investigate the driver and is preparing the appropriate proceedings to be presented before the Ocaña Court of Instruction.
