Alicante Provincial Council and the Alicante Chamber of Commerce are jointly driving the creation of a regional energy community aimed at advancing sustainability while delivering meaningful reductions in energy costs for local city councils, households, and small to medium-sized enterprises across the area.

In remarks highlighting the broader impact, Miguel Ángel Sánchez, the environment spokesperson on the council, stressed that energy communities bring tangible economic, social, and environmental advantages. He noted how consolidating energy needs through a shared framework can stabilize prices, reduce dependence on volatile markets, and foster resilient local economies through collaborative investment in clean energy solutions.

Carlos Baño, President of the Chamber, explained that the organization’s core mission is to encourage the adoption and smart use of clean and sustainable energy sources. He pointed to technologies such as photovoltaics as practical pathways to cut electricity costs for SMEs and self-employed workers, with a special emphasis on empowering small businesses to compete more effectively by lowering their energy bills and improving cash flow.

Participants within the energy community—families and SMEs alike—stand to see direct savings ranging from 25% to 30% on their current energy invoices. The model includes digitized, transparent, and community-led management, which helps ensure accountability and ongoing efficiency. Additionally, the community can negotiate favorable terms for remaining consumption, potentially unlocking further savings and creating a stronger, more predictable energy future for residents and local enterprises across the region.
