The retroactive gender difference supplement is a measure enacted in our country to reduce retirement inequalities between men and women.
Historically, this policy acknowledges that women face disadvantages in the job market, which has often led to lower pensions compared with men. The aim is to partially offset this gap by recognizing the additional childcare responsibilities often shouldered by women.

Who can benefit from this supplement?
The supplement may apply to those described on the Social Security page. Eligible beneficiaries include people receiving contributory pensions, as well as recipients of permanent disability or widowhood pensions, with exceptions for partial retirement, and individuals with one or more children.
In principle, the program is directed at women who experience more adverse effects in their careers due to motherhood, but parents can also apply if they themselves experience the impact, as stated in frequently asked questions. The policy notes that individuals face greater professional difficulties because of childbearing.
If neither parent has suffered periods of non-contribution or work interruptions, an additional benefit may still be provided to the mother. In the case of two mothers, the benefit goes to the person with the lowest pension.
A common question is when parents can request this supplement. Eligibility requires meeting one of two conditions.
-
If an orphan pension is established, the surviving parent with whom the children are connected may receive a widow’s pension in the event of the other parent’s death.
-
Those with a contributory pension or permanent disability pension and whose careers have been interrupted by birth, adoption, or related contribution conditions may qualify.
In what cases will this additional payment not be charged?
The supplement is not paid to a parent who has been stripped of parental authority due to a criminal or civil case or to a parent convicted of violence against a partner or child.

How much does this supplement cost?
The amount of the supplement is set by the state annual budget law. This year, the monthly amount for each child is 30.40 euros, with a cap at four children. There are two extra payments during the summer and Christmas. A parent with several children could see a pension increase of about 425.60 euros per year.

The supplement amount is updated with pension revaluation and applies to the same conditions as the base pension, such as death or other factors, or if the other parent requests it and meets the criteria.
How should the supplement be processed?
When processing a pension, the supplement should be included as part of the total pension calculation.
