This Monday, five TV-3 debuts the second installment of the Febamar case and bids farewell to a season that drew strong numbers, reaching audience shares of up to 25 percent. The four-part arc, titled Hand crimes de la guardia urbana: la versión del jury’s latest change, is followed by true crime fans with another release on Tuesday the sixth at 23:00 on TVE. There, the premiere of The killer of the deck unveils a new original documentary series from RTVE Play. This fresh entry documents the methodical pursuit of a serial killer who stalks Madrid, with three forty-five-minute episodes scheduled to air on TVE and to stream on RTVE Play, RTVE’s direct platform.
Produced by RTVE in collaboration with Goroka, El Asesino de la damra is crafted by the journalist and executive producer who has become synonymous with the series. Carlos Porta, director and presenter of Crims on Catalan TV-3 before moving to Movistar Plus+, now brings his experience to this program. The series features interviews with figures connected to the case across time, including members of the National Police and Civil Guard, investigative journalists who tracked the events, lawyers, and survivors of the attacks. A distinctive presence is provided by criminologist Vicente Garrido, who acts as a crime profiler to illuminate the killer’s mindset.
a cinematic aesthetic
A deck killer narrative is presented with a distinctly cinematic look and a tightly wound suspense structure. The series makes use of graphic and audio material drawn from forensic and police archives that has not previously been disclosed, enriching the storytelling and offering viewers new context. The visual style, camera language, and staging nod to the era’s greatest crime films, drawing comparisons to classic 70s film noirs directed by figures like Don Siegel, Sidney Lumet, and William Friedkin.
Beyond the three main episodes, the project includes a documentary strand directed by Román Parrado with a screenplay by Enric Álvarez, and executive produced by Goroka, the Crims team responsible Guillem Cascante, Ruben Mayoral, and Carles Porta. An additional transmedia afterword extends the experience, currently planned for RTVE Play, where an expert analysis continues to unpack the criminal profile and trace the investigation’s progress.
