With the much anticipated debut of the Big Circle Line (BCL), celebrated as the world’s longest metro route, assets were unveiled in a bold show of innovation. On the launch day, March 1, a striking art installation was unveiled in collaboration with the Moscow Metro and telecommunications giant MTS. The project showcases how modern transit and digital culture intersect, turning a routine ride into a brief journey through art and technology.
The centerpiece is a dramatic 4 by 2.5 meter flying carpet sculpture displayed on a curved LED display at the newly opened Rizhskaya BKL station. This dynamic installation demonstrates the impressive data throughput of the MTS mobile network, recording speeds of up to 250 Mbit/s at every station, during transfers, and while trains traverse the network. Passengers at the station typically spend a sizable amount of time commuting each day, making it a natural showcase for fast, reliable connectivity in a high-traffic hub.
Technological progress continues to transform the Moscow Metro. Features like contactless payments with debit cards and biometric facial recognition contribute to a smoother, faster journey, while digital assistants assist passengers with queries and travel planning. The new art object complements these innovations by guiding riders to discover MTS services that can enrich their time on the move, from entertainment to information access during commutes.
The visual content of the installation blends stylized representations of MTS ecosystem services. Viewers encounter elements from KION online cinema, the Stroky reading platform, and the MTS Music music service. All imagery is generated through neural networks and generative graphics, reflecting contemporary trends in AI-driven art and media presentation.
Rizhskaya station, a hub on the BKL route, will host the installation through mid-March, inviting riders to experience the intersection of mobility and media. The momentum of the project also extends to the in-carriage multimedia displays, where video content supports the high-speed network and showcases promotional codes for complimentary access to the Lines service and KION online cinema, encouraging travelers to explore new ways to enjoy their journeys.
