A-5 highway collision injures five near Madrid direction

On Thursday, five people sustained injuries when a truck carrying about 50 passengers collided with a bus on the A-5 highway. The crash reportedly caused the truck to catch fire, prompting the closure of the road in the immediate aftermath.

According to information relayed to Europa Press from 112 Emergency Service sources, the incident occurred at 04:38 in the morning at kilometer 114 of the route, which runs in the Madrid direction.

The most seriously injured individual is a 66-year-old man. Four people sustained light injuries: a 60-year-old man and three women aged 75, all of whom were transported to Talavera hospital by a basic life support ambulance. They were able to walk with the other passengers after receiving initial care and monitoring on site.

The emergency responders from Talavera Fire Department continued to assess and neutralize the fire. The road remained closed to traffic following the collision as firefighters worked to extinguish the flames and secure the scene.

Authorities are examining the causes of the incident and coordinating with medical teams to ensure all injured receive appropriate treatment while the highway remains temporarily out of service for safety inspections and cleanup operations.
