Aging 87-year-old woman who had become severely dependent and bedridden was found deceased in her Madrid home, where she had lived with her son. The son, aged 54 and also in frail health, had been caring for his mother for years before he passed away at the same residence. The two bodies were discovered after several days had passed since their deaths, in an advanced state of decomposition, with no signs of violence observed at the scene.
The discovery occurred just before 9:00 a.m. on a Saturday, after neighbors who had noticed the unusual conditions and the lingering smell coming from the residence contacted emergency services. Police, firefighters from the municipal corps, the Samur-PC emergency service, and the National Police responded to the address at 56 Ocaña Street and entered the home to confirm the situation.
According to police sources, it appears the son may have died after an accidental fall in the kitchen, leaving the mother unable to feed herself and ultimately leading to her death in bed. The circumstances suggest a prolonged period of isolation and deteriorating health for both residents, culminating in the tragic loss of life that authorities are now examining as a possible case of unattended death in a dwelling.
