The German Federal Intelligence Service (BND) is facing a personnel shortage; successful foreign intelligence is almost impossible for the country. The magazine reports Picture With reference to sources.

According to journalists, the BND has 6,500 employees, but there are more than 700 vacancies. Some employees do not want to give up the opportunity to work remotely one day a week, while others often take sick leave.

In addition, the work of foreign intelligence is complicated by the so-called rotation principle, according to which, as Bild gives an example, experts involved in the DPRK missile program are forced to re-profile and deal with financing issues, and experts on the subject of Russia are forced to switch to the subject of South American drug cartels.

The process of recruiting new experts at the BND is also challenging because it is long. As Bild writes, the service will only be able to operate if the US and UK provide it with information.

The German Federal Intelligence Service is responsible for collecting and evaluating information about foreign countries that is relevant to the foreign and security policy of the Federal Republic of Germany. It is the only German military intelligence service that provides intelligence abroad.
