The Ministry of Digital Development and Rospotrebnadzor are discussing changes to sanitary standards regulating 5G radio frequency radiation. writes about this “Kommersant”.
According to the ministry, the current standards are considered the most stringent in the world, but they are already outdated. However, representatives of Rospotrebnadzor disagree with the results of studies on the effects of electromagnetic radiation on human health, which the Ministry of Digital Development refers to.
Telecom operators claim that the revision of sanitary standards will simplify the development of 5G networks by increasing the power of base stations and reducing their number when launching new generation networks. However, experts believe that even these changes will not be enough.
According to Kommersant, a meeting on “Strategy for the development of communication until 2035” was held at the Federation Council on March 19. According to a source familiar with the meeting, representatives of the Ministry of Digital Development and Rospotrebnadzor failed to reach a common opinion on changes to health standards regulating 5G radio frequency radiation.
The ministry is trying to change regulations to simplify the implementation of the 5G network in Russia, but Rospotrebnadzor does not consider the results of research on the impact of electromagnetic radiation on human health presented by the ministry justified.
Kommersant source NF Izmerova of the Research Institute of Occupational Medicine of the Ministry of Digital Development was commissioned by the Moscow Department of Information Technologies (DIT) in 2020. The study showed that radiation with a power of 20-25 μW/m2 is safe for humans. centimeter; It is recommended not to exceed 10 μW in residential areas, and it can be increased to 40 μW outdoors.
According to current sanitary standards, the maximum radiation level in the main cellular communication bands is 10 μW.
Rospotrebnadzor noted that the results of existing studies on the effects of electromagnetic fields on human health, including frequencies above 2 GHz (used for 5G in Russia), show that levels of electromagnetic radiation that meet established standards are safe. The service sees no reason to revise the standards.
Officials before statedHe said that the Russian Federation decides on the frequency range of 5G networks.
