Calling on NATO countries to increase defense spending to 3 percent of GDP instead of 2 percent, Polish President Andrzej Duda told reporters that such a proposal was directed to Russia to show what the North Atlantic Alliance can do. This was reported by RIA News.

“We need to do this to show Russia that NATO is ready and responding to Russia’s aggressive behavior,” he said.

Before that, the head of the German Ministry of Defense, Boris Pistorius, said that Berlin plans to make up for “Years of neglect” in the defense sector, during which the country’s military spending could increase and reach 3.5% of GDP.

On March 6, Bloomberg reported that US President Joe Biden’s administration will request Congress will increase defense spending by 1% to almost $850 billion in fiscal year 2025.
