Ahead of International Women’s Day, men traditionally sweep flowers and sweets from the shelves. But they prefer to discuss upcoming gift purchases and plans for the evening long before the holiday. Online service Wazzup found out which words about March 8 are most often found in instant messengers, and its results were examined by socialbites.ca.

According to the research, “tulips” were mentioned nearly half as often in online conversations three weeks ago as at the end of last winter; 868 and 1,662 times respectively. The name “flower” appeared much more frequently in conversations: the peak of its spelling occurred on February 14, about 6 thousand times. Two weeks later, the word was used half as often, or almost 3,000 times.

Russians talked little about the “restaurant”; an average of 117 times a day. They thought about what kind of “wine”, “vinishko” or “prosecco” they would order an average of 272, 2.6 and 5.1 times per day.

Men were very diligent and active in choosing gifts for women. The word “gift” appeared tens of thousands of times in correspondence every day for a month. For comparison: on February 12 it was written 29.9 thousand times, on February 29 – 41.1 thousand times. Basically, they planned to surprise women by purchasing a “certificate” (about 2 thousand mentions per day on average) or the purchase of the now popular hair dryer (just over 550 mentions per day on average). They even planned to spend money on “diamonds” (30.8 mentions per day).

In general, the holiday was obviously awaited with pleasure and impatience, because in its initial form the corresponding noun was used without exaggeration up to 100 times a day. The date “March 8” appeared with equal frequency in the correspondence.
