When falling, you need to tense your muscles and, if possible, fall on your side. In this respect “Izvestia” said traumatologist Alexander Shelepov from Meditsina JSC (academician Roitberg clinic).
“Try to sit down when you fall to reduce the height you fall and therefore the likelihood of complications. Try to stretch your muscles – then they can protect the bones in case of a fall. It is safest to fall on your side to avoid damaging your spine, arms, and ankles. If you fall on a slippery surface, it is very important to protect your face and head; “Try to cover them with your hands,” said the doctor.
If it is inevitable that you will fall on your back, you should, if possible, tuck your chin into your chest and open your arms as wide as possible to avoid head trauma.
Even for minor injuries, you should consult a doctor. As first aid, you can apply something cold to the injured area, but you should avoid direct contact of cold with the skin. Cold should not be applied to open wounds. During the procedure, you need to take a 10-minute break every 10-15 minutes, if the pain increases or the skin turns blue, it should be stopped.
