Coast guard ships belonging to the People’s Republic of China and the Philippines collided in the South China Sea due to Beijing’s allegedly provocative actions. This was stated by Matthew Miller, head of the press service of the United States Department of State. TASS.

“The United States stands with our ally the Philippines in light of the PRC’s provocative actions on March 5 regarding the Philippines’ legitimate operations in the South China Sea,” he said.

According to a State Department spokesperson, Chinese ships performed dangerous maneuvers and used water cannons against Philippine ships supplying the Philippine military in the Sierra Madre. It claims that “this led to a series of collisions, damaging at least one Philippine ship, injuring Filipino personnel, and endangering Filipino crews.”

As Miller noted, Washington condemns China’s actions and calls on Beijing to desist from “dangerous and destabilizing steps.”

On March 5, the Philippine Coast Guard said its ship was damaged and four people were injured when it collided with a Chinese coast guard ship off Ren’ai Reef in the South China Sea. In response, the Chinese Maritime Police Department accused the Philippine ship of acting unprofessionally and dangerously by deliberately ramming into a Chinese ship.
