Scientists from the University of Split in Croatia have discovered that hydrosols and essential oils from sea fennel have strong antioxidant and anti-aging potential. Research results published In Foods magazine.

Sea fennel belongs to the group of perennial aromatic plants belonging to the carrot family (Apiaceae). The plant is also called sea dill due to its external resemblance to members of the Apiaceae family, which has a slender stem and a lush crown.

During the scientific study, scientists used a combination of chemical and biological analysis methods to study the biochemical composition and biological properties of sea fennel collected in France and Croatia. It turns out that this herb has powerful antioxidant and anti-aging potential. The phenolic plant compounds contained in its composition can combat aging by protecting cells from damage caused by special forms of radicals that do not contain oxygen. It accumulates in the body during natural metabolism.

It is also stated that Croatian sea fennel displays anti-tyrosinase and anti-collagenase activity; hydrolates and essential oils based on it in skin care cosmetics can help soften the skin, even out its tone and lighten age spots. Scientists hope that their discovery will contribute to the development of new, safe and natural anti-aging cosmetic supplements.
