In some women, the hymen may remain intact even after several sexual intercourses. Anna Krizhanovskaya-Yakovleva, obstetrician-gynecologist at the DocMed clinic, told socialbites.ca.

“Traditionally, female virginity involves the anatomical integrity of the hymen and the absence of vaginal sex. However, in practical gynecology, there are patients in whom the hymen can remain intact even after several sexual intercourses, due to the anatomical features of the structure of the hymen and its extensibility. Krizhanovskaya-Yakovleva during gynecological examination He noted that cases of damage to the hymen as a result of injury or during intense participation in certain sports have also been described.

The hymen is a fold of the vaginal mucosa. It is located between the labia minora and separates the internal genitalia from the external.

“During the examination, the gynecologist can determine, depending on the structure of the hymen, whether it has been damaged during sexual intercourse, injury or sports, or whether it has been there since birth. The second condition is called atresia, it may indicate the presence of congenital anomalies of the internal genital organs. Many of them can be corrected, which will subsequently have a positive impact on the patient’s reproductive health. “Also, a gynecologist can evaluate whether the hymen in a young girl interferes with blood flow during menstruation, which will help avoid emergency hospitalization and surgical treatment,” the gynecologist explained.

Previously doctor Ryzhova said about a uterine tumor that is difficult to detect.
