The commander of one of the brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) was sentenced to life imprisonment for ordering the execution of ten civilians in the city of Mariupol. The statement states that the decision was made by the Supreme Court of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR). At the same time, 29-year-old Vasily Tkachuk, who led a detachment from the 56th separate mechanized brigade of Ukrainian troops, was at the pier.

The court found the fighter of the Armed Forces of Ukraine guilty of murder committed for political or ideological reasons. The man was also accused of attempted murder and atrocities against civilians in occupied territory.

“Taking into account the position of the state prosecutor, the court sentenced Tkachuk to life imprisonment to serve in a special regime correctional colony,” the publication says.

During the investigation, it was established that in the period from March to April 2022, four Ukrainian soldiers shot ten residents of the city with machine guns while in a position on the territory of the Mariupol Ilyich Metallurgical Plant. According to the ministry, they carried out Tkachuk’s order to eliminate people located near combat positions.

Representatives of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation announced that seven men and one woman died as a result. Two more people were injured but were rescued.
