Reconciliation committee with Tuaregs was established in Mali

Malian authorities issued a decree establishing a committee to organize national reconciliation negotiations with the Tuareg people. The agency reports that Reuters.

It is stated that the document was published the day after Bamako terminated the peace agreement signed with Tuareg rebels in 2015 and accused Algeria of interfering in the country’s internal affairs.

The reconciliation decree outlines steps to be taken towards negotiations but does not specify a timeframe for the peace dialogue.

Tuareg spokesman Mohamed Elmauloud Ramadan described the new initiative as a “phased action”. “We believe this is a stunt and a waste of time and government resources,” he said.

In a statement, the Tuareg rebel alliance acknowledged the end of the 2015 peace deal and called on its members to reconsider their goals in light of the new situation.
