Nebulossa has a good moment before joining Benidorm Fest 2024. The group formed by Mery Bas and Mark Dasousa continued their trip to Alicante. ‘Bitch’The song with which they will participate in the TVE music competition became the first song of this edition to exceed one million views on Spotify, as well as one of the most viral songs. In full countdown, YOTELE Nebulossa vocalist talks to Mery Blas about a lot of things

You’re heading to Benidorm next week to rehearse on stage at the Palau de L’Illa. How are you rehearsing so far?

The truth is it’s very good. Especially because we were preparing, with the subject of singing lessons… I continue to do what I have been doing until now. The only problem is that, for example, I left the choreography issue a bit on the back burner because we had already prepared the live show at that time. I’m preparing for this with my friend Vero, who prepared the live show for me.

From what you told me, there will be some choreography in your performance, right?

Let’s see, I can’t tell you anything, but I’m actually saying that there won’t be such a choreography because we don’t want to lose our essence. We won’t go crazy. Also, we do not want to do any shows that are not ours and that are not included in my concerts as a group. This is not losing our essence. I don’t know if you saw the concerts we played there, but come on, you have to do something. This is certain.

Apart from rehearsals and such, what have your experiences been like these weeks since they announced that you would be attending this edition of Benidorm Fest?

Do you know what happens? Since we are our own business, there is a sort of ‘nebula’ between us regarding everything that is going on. We know we are the most viral song, but of course don’t think we can brag about all this because we are busy. So we’re doing well. We’re excited and very happy because we’re very happy with everything that’s going on, but we’re really focused on what we’re doing out there and that’s it. This much.

“We’re not going to go crazy. We also don’t want to do any show where we can’t be ourselves.”

Currently and according to available data, the most viral song of Benidorm Festival is ‘Zorra’. You were the first song to surpass one million views on Spotify. How do you see this wonderful reception from the public?

There is something surprising there because we did not expect all this. Not at all. We are thrilled with all the expressions of love we receive. You can’t imagine people making videos on TikTok, a network where the song goes viral. We knew the song would be liked because I carry it inside me. Like me, I feel super identified, because how can people who are listening to it not feel that way, especially people who are going through the same situations that I’m going through, because I think a lot of us are. So of course I think this whole thing has become huge because people identify with the song and make it their own. So of course this is also a way of saying that people are letting everything out inside them. So this song was really needed.

‘Zorra’ is not an ordinary song for many, it is an anthem.

It has such a liberating, empowering and vengeful message that we need to break away from all these themes. Also, if you watch the video, we capture a little bit of everything the song says. From breaking ageism and all the taboos on the subject to our salute to Manuela Trasobares. It’s all there. Director Laia Lluch got it right, but you don’t understand how.

Have you received any messages from Manuela Trasobares after the wink in the ‘Zorra’ video clip?

We didn’t find out much, but the communications people were talking to him and the truth was he was very excited about it all.

“Just like I feel like I super identify with ‘Zorra,’ how can people who listen to it not feel that way too, especially people who are going through the same situations that I’m going through, because I think a lot of us do.”

There are also a lot of people comparing ‘Zorra’ to ‘Ay mama’ as an anthem. How does this comparison make you feel?

I find it wonderful that they compare me to Rigoberta. It’s like they made me look like Ana Torroja. They are artists that I feel very identified with because I listen to and love them a lot.

Besides being the most viral song, there are even people who are planning to go to Palau de L’Illa with their t-shirts and are ready to go all out and support you during your live performance. Will this help you give your all when performing your action?

The truth is I don’t know what will happen. Our concerts have always been very modest, with more or less people. We didn’t have anyone either, but the few people who came were always singing our songs. I mean, we’ve always been so happy as we climbed our steps, little by little, but this… I don’t know what’s going to happen, but the truth is that people are responding the same way they’re responding to this whole problem. messages and videos, let’s see some hallucinations. I think the pavilion will be demolished. I wish I could perform well but I don’t know what will happen because I imagine people singing the whole song anyway. If I dream it, it can be something huge.

“I think Palau de L’Illa in Benidorm will debut with ‘Zorra’. I would like to perform well but I don’t know what will happen because I’m already imagining people singing the whole song.”

But for example, are you ready for the Palau de L’Illa to fall by singing ‘Zorra, zorra, zorra’ from one part of the song?

I believe that too, but as long as the stands are broken and nothing happens… The song is enough for that and I don’t know if there will be much capacity there considering what’s going on. I’m thinking 3000 people. Imagine them all chanting these slogans. Nobody said anything other than hate topics or anything, but I can say that everyone tells us what they liked about the song, how it reached them, you know? Everything that happens is so beautiful.

It is also important that this Benidorm Fest has not only musical diversity but also age diversity. You prove that you are the most viral song and you are the veteran of 16 participants.

It’s great to have diversity, different styles, different ages. Sharon had already said this in her presentation in Seville. I thanked Benidorm Fest for all their support, especially regarding ageism as I said before. There were even comments I saw on YouTube saying, “This is where the old woman goes.” So you have to park because you’re like, ‘Well, there are people who just like to go and cause harm,’ because the elderly, it’s assumed that unless something happens to you, we’re all going to be elderly.

Old but with it song The most viral of this edition of Benidorm Fest so far.

Look, absolutely.

The camaraderie that all participants of Benidorm Fest 2024 have is also remarkable. Is this also important when it comes to attending a festival with so much media coverage and a certain social pressure?

Yes, it is very good what is happening. Also, there’s a lot of closeness in the WhatsApp group and stuff, and we don’t really know each other because we’ve seen each other like four times. Many people told me that the artist profile we are in consists of very humble people who just want to be in harmony, and that this is very important. There is no ego battle. We want to showcase our show and bring visibility to our project. I think each of us has the best time possible.

“There were comments on YouTube saying, ‘The old lady is where she goes.’ So you have to park them because you say, ‘Well, there are people who just like to go and cause harm,’ because old people don’t do anything to you, ‘We all need to become them.’

Do you have any favourites?

Actually, a lot of songs. I couldn’t believe it when I found out Ms. Caffeine was there, too. I’m their super fan. I’m so excited. Actually, we attended Benidorm Fest because in the first edition I saw Rigoberta, who I am also a big fan of, even though no one knew her, so to speak, right? Or maybe it’s just the indie industry and Varry Brava, I love them. That’s when I said, ‘Oyster, you can introduce us, right?’ I decided. I also saw that this was an opportunity and that publishing opened the door to new styles of music.

By analogy, I love ‘Bla bla bla’, but I also love Almácor’s, which interestingly was played to us for a reaction video (for social networks where we each listen to another participant’s song before it comes out). And the truth is, I love it too, but I also love St. I love Pedro too. I love Yoly’s too. María Pelaé is not my style, but I think she is an artist and so is Sofia Coll. I could tell you everything. We are a little heartbroken.

Have you made any promises if you win the Benidorm Festival and go to Eurovision?

For me, we are super winners of everything that happens and I always thank the universe. I think about how I can respond to everything that is given to me, and I think that I have thoughts on everything that I can help every artist and every person within my means, and I try to respond to all the messages that come to me. I. Most of the time it’s impossible because it’s crazy. So give of myself, send my love to everyone and help as much as I can. This is my motto.

You already said you can’t say anything about performance, but I suggest a game. I want you to compare your ‘Zorra’ number from Benidorm Fest to different things. If your performance were a color, what color would it be?

If it were a color it would be very vague.

What would the nebula color be like? blue, dark, red…?

You have to draw a conclusion from this (laughs). Nebulae have many shades.

Stars can be many colors…

Clear.

What would happen if there was a time?

Eighties.

What if it were a word?

It would be ‘Zorra’ (Laughs).

What if it were a number?

It will be 8, that is, infinity.
