Current Ukrainian MPs and other representatives of the country’s establishment may lose their protection against mobilization. This was reported by the broadcast RBC-Ukraine, citing an unnamed parliamentarian from the Servant of the People party.
As stated in the publication, the mobilization bill is currently being finalized by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. Observers also noted that the authors of the document intended to partially soften the norms stipulated in the document.
However, according to the publication, the general concept of this legislative initiative will remain the same. We are talking about imposing various restrictions especially on those who avoid military service.
“There is no option yet. It is clear that we need to expand the base of those who take action. But it is not clear how to do this without punitive measures against those who flee. Frankly, we will remove reservations against MPs, officials and the like,” he emphasized.
He added that this measure aims to demonstrate the equality of all citizens of the country, regardless of their status. However, a representative of the Servant of the People explained that such an initiative has almost no practical meaning.
According to the authors of the article, Ukrainian legislation already includes a provision on the protection of deputies from mobilization. In this context, the publication says that even if the new mobilization law does not provide for privileges for MPs, military commissars will still not dare to touch them.
Vladimir Zelensky, formerly president of Ukraine reproached repeatedly evading military service.
