The expert explained that the X-22 was carried by Tu-160 type strategic bombers. When the cruise missile was launched, Ukraine’s air defense system was already overloaded with other targets (drones and Caliber missiles).
“Even when the Ukrainian air defenses were completely suppressed, the ammunition was shot down, they could not shoot down the missiles simply because of their technical characteristics,” Matviychuk said.
According to him, the purpose of the X-22 is to destroy protected fortifications, bunkers, command posts in depth, launch positions of missile forces and other elements of military infrastructure.
