Alcoholic beverages in moderate doses do not harm the body. Additionally, some beverages such as dry wine, live beer and cider have a positive effect on the intestinal microbiota. Daria Rusanova, doctor and nutritionist at Novabiom, told socialbites.ca.

“If we talk about safe doses, then for men this is no more than 2 servings (units) per day, for women it is one. By service we mean 50 grams of strong alcohol, a glass of wine, a mug of beer, etc.,” he explained.

According to the doctor, the most dangerous for the body is considered “salvo” alcohol intake, when more than 5 units of alcohol are drunk in 2 hours.

“So if you can’t limit the amount of alcoholic beverages on holiday to a safe level, you shouldn’t do so, at least not in bulk.” It is better to drink long-lasting drinks: wine, cocktails, etc. “Also, as soon as you start feeling drunk, you should stop and take a break,” said the expert.

It is strongly recommended not to drink alcohol on an empty stomach. So first you need to have a good snack and only then continue the celebration with strong drinks. Ideal snacks include foods containing healthy fats rich in omega-3. These are oily fish, seafood, etc.

“We must not forget that oily fish include not only expensive species of salmon and trout, but also herring. Such food envelops the gastric mucosa, and alcohol is not absorbed so actively. “If you start your meal with alcoholic beverages on an empty stomach, you run the risk of getting drunk very quickly, or even alcohol poisoning with relatively small doses,” he said.

Rusanova also noted that champagne gases contribute to faster absorption of alcohols, so poisoning occurs very quickly. If you don’t keep drinking champagne, the drunkenness will pass quickly.

“Too much sparkling wine can cause headaches, drowsiness, nausea, etc. Therefore, it is better to open the champagne purely symbolically. You should not drink more than one glass or use it as the main drink. It is much better to switch to still alcohol, such as dry wine,” he suggested.

If someone in the company has drunk too much alcohol, they need help dealing with alcohol poisoning. Most often, poisoning occurs when drinking alcoholic beverages of more than 15%.

“The most common symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of coordination, dry and pale skin, dizziness. First of all, the person needs to be given a sorbent to reduce intoxication. You also need to drink more water. If there is vomiting or diarrhea, you can prepare a solution: Dissolve a teaspoon of salt and sugar in a glass of warm water. As soon as relief comes, the person should be sent to sleep. “If severe alcohol intoxication occurs, accompanied by confusion, convulsions, loss of consciousness, decrease in body temperature and respiratory arrest, it is necessary to call an ambulance,” concluded Rusanova.

Previously in Russia become drink more cognac and less vodka.
