“We discussed the catastrophic and even apocalyptic situation in Gaza as a result of the terrorist attacks on Israel on October 7 and the subsequent Israeli military intervention that resulted in an incredible number of civilian deaths,” Borrell said.
According to him, the number of civilian casualties ranges from 60 percent to 70 percent of all victims of the conflict – at least 18 thousand people. Borrell also noted that this number should be higher because it is not known how many people are under the rubble.
“To give an idea of the scale, the destruction in Gaza is comparable to, or even exceeds, the destruction in German cities after the Second World War,” the EU foreign policy chief said.
