Russia will go to court over the unauthorized extraction of jade

According to the public prosecutor’s office, a criminal case has been opened in Buryatia for the illegal extraction, storage and transportation of more than 250 kilograms of jade with a total value of about five million rubles. This has been reported Web site departments.

According to the supervisory authority, a local resident is accused of committing two crimes. The first refers to the unauthorized mining of jade on a large scale. The charge was brought under Part 3 of Article 255 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The second offense relates to the illegal storage and transportation of jade on a large scale without a permit; this is part 2 of article 191 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

The investigation alleges that from May 2022 to March 2023, the defendant carried out unauthorized mining activities in the Bauntovsky district of Buryatia and the illegal storage and transportation of jade in its natural form (in the form of alluvial river rocks and pebbles). These are semi-precious minerals.

The total weight of the seized jade is over 250 kilograms and its value is estimated to be approximately five million rubles.
