The Moscow Regional Court approved the 22-year prison sentence of the former governor of the Khabarovsk Territory, Sergei Furgal. This was reported by RIA News with reference to the judicial press service.
“The decision of the Lyubertsy City Court of the Moscow Region <…> If left unchanged, the objections will not be met,” the court’s decision reads.
According to the press service, the court sent the case to review only the issue of collecting funds from the defendants for procedural costs.
The publication states that the sentence has entered into legal force and will be carried out in the near future.
February 10 court prisoner Furgal was sentenced to 22 years in prison. He was found guilty of organizing contract killings in 2004-2005. According to the judge, the illegal gun acquisition case was removed from the case because the statute of limitations had expired. On February 2, the former governor was found guilty. The prosecutor had previously asked the court to sentence him to 23 years of maximum security based on the jury’s guilty verdict. Furgal was detained in July 2020.
