Psychologists from the Complutense University of Madrid have identified 19 character traits that are characteristic of centenarians. These include honesty and curiosity. Research results published In Journal of Happiness Research.
More than 14 thousand people between the ages of 100 and 107 participated in the research. Scientists tried to find similarities by analyzing the character traits of the participants. It turned out that all centenarians have 19 common features. Researchers said that the most important of these is curiosity. Such people constantly try to learn and master various skills.
Second in importance is joy. It turns out that positive thinking is characteristic of all centenarians. In addition, such people were often honest, had a good sense of humor and high intelligence. Other common traits included gratitude, activity, and courage.
Analyzing the lives and characters of centenarians could be a step towards achieving healthy aging, Spanish scientists suggest.
