Scientists of the Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution “Far Eastern Center for Respiratory Physiology and Pathology” (DSC FPD) have developed a method to estimate the risks of exacerbation of bronchial asthma during the season with high air humidity. It takes into account genetic predisposition factors associated with the characteristics of the respiratory system. The Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation told socialbites.ca about this.

Today, bronchial asthma cannot be completely “cured”, but the disease can be controlled: to reduce the number of clinical manifestations of the disease, the need for “rescue” therapy, reduce lung function, and also prevent long-term risks such as exacerbation of the disease and side effects of taking medications.

Exacerbations can be caused by a variety of factors, including increased air humidity.

“We found that during periods of hot and humid weather, especially when humidity exceeds 50%, patients’ control over the disease decreases, external respiratory function worsens, and bronchial variability observed during special examination by a pulmonologist becomes more pronounced. Prevention of non-specific lung diseases To prevent such adverse events, a method was developed to predict the decline in control of bronchial asthma during this period, Denis Naumov, senior researcher in the laboratory, explained to socialbites.ca.

Using the developed method will make it possible to detect negative ones in advance.

“Experts identify one of the variants of two genes called AQP5 and TRPV4, take into account conventional spirometry data (an airflow study that allows assessing external respiratory function) and also determine the initial level of bronchial control. Asthma was determined using a special questionnaire,” Naumov said.

Previous methods did not account for individual gene sequence variability and baseline control. This development makes it possible to significantly optimize prevention and pharmacotherapy and improve the quality of life of patients with bronchial asthma.

previous doctors refuted Myth about the link between asthma and severe Covid-19 in children.
