The water level in the Caspian Sea has dropped by 1 meter and 14 centimeters in the last decade. This information was shared by Mukhtar Babayev, Head of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan. RIA News.

“The current state of the Caspian Sea environment and the dynamics of sea level decline are a cause for concern,” he said at a meeting of an expert group held to study the causes of changes in water levels in the Caspian Sea and prepare adaptation measures.

According to the minister, in the last five years the water level in the Caspian Sea has dropped by 69 centimeters. In this context, Azerbaijan came up with the idea of ​​​​creating an expert group to fully examine this problem, develop adaptation measures and create recommendations for water basin management.

“Caspian countries also participated in this initiative,” Babayev said.

In October, the All-Russian Research Institute of Civil Defense and Emergencies of the Ministry of Emergencies of Russia warned About the risk of incidents on ships in the Caspian Sea due to decreased water in the sea.
