Psychologist Joanna Silver said insomnia, social isolation and sports addiction could point to the development of anorexia nervosa, a dangerous mental disorder. In this respect reports Daily mail.

Anorexia is a serious mental eating disorder characterized by a compulsive desire to lose weight, fear of obesity, and distorted body image. The consequences of such a disorder can be cardiovascular disease, kidney failure and infertility. The disease is difficult to diagnose because it is often perceived as a health problem by the patient and others.

The psychologist noted that if a loved one becomes addicted to training (skipping classes seems unacceptable) and proper nutrition, this may be an alarming sign of anorexia. Anorexia patients try to exclude from their diet all “harmful” foods – sweet, fried, salty. Often people with this disorder cut food into small pieces or eat very small portions.

Additionally, people suffering from anorexia often avoid socializing. This may be due to a person’s decreased self-esteem as a result of the disease – such people are dissatisfied with their appearance and focus on their imaginary shortcomings. In addition, on the background of anorexia, insomnia or, conversely, drowsiness may develop.

Trying to talk to a loved one about their unhealthy habits could lead to a fight, the psychologist warned. The doctor recommends being patient and convincing the person to get help.
