Israel withdrew its ambassador from Turkey after Erdogan’s speech
Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen announced the withdrawal of his country’s diplomatic representatives from Ankara this Saturday, in apparent reaction to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s fiery speech today comparing Israeli bombings in Gaza to the Holocaust.
“In the face of serious statements from Turkey, I have ordered the return of diplomatic representatives there for a re-evaluation of relations between Israel and Turkey,” Cohen wrote on the X network, formerly known as Twitter.
In his speech a few hours ago, Erdogan had compared Israeli bombings of Gaza to the Jewish Holocaust and the atomic bombs of World War II to a large crowd gathered in Istanbul, and attributed everything to the “Western” mentality.
