Andrey Pylev, Candidate of Medical Sciences, member of the American Society of Oncologists and Chemotherapists, ASCO, and the European Association of Clinical Oncologists, ESMO.

“If we talk about certain symptoms, for example, in esophageal cancer, dysphagia, that is, a violation of the passage of food, occurs. This is the first thing such patients complain about. “In stomach cancer, depending on the location of the tumor, nausea and vomiting may occur immediately after eating or a few hours later, and pain in the stomach may occur,” Pylev explained.

According to the expert, colon cancer is accompanied by obstruction, poisoning and bleeding. In the case of liver cancer, the tumor can press on the bile ducts, causing the person to develop jaundice.

“But there are also nonspecific symptoms that are characteristic of cancer, called minor symptom syndrome. And they are the first to appear. Therefore, if the patient complains of unreasonable weight loss, weakness, apathy or aversion to food, this should alert the doctor. Of course, these symptoms are non-specific and could just be the autumn blues, but it’s better to be safe,” the oncologist concluded.
